PIGAR MAHDAR ON “REGIONAL YOUTH LEADER CONFERENCE 2011″
Have you noticed how quickly the world is changing? In a highly competitive world where second languages are mandatory and skills sets demand more and more dynamics, looking good on paper for business just isn’t good enough. It’s hard to get through business opportunities with hard skills alone.
And with the young on the road to shaping the future of business, there’s a new kind of responsibility that needs to be acknowledged and be put into action. In our current time, the youth of the world are more powerful, and more important, than ever before. But rarely do we see some action, or a brave set of young soldiers willing to push their limits in order to bring communities together and stronger.
Regional Youth Leader Conference 2011 or RYLC2011 (6-9 July) successfully takes the changing times on foot and took participants on an exciting journey of insight and inspiration. And why not? There was Leo Burnett Indonesia tipping us on the future of marketing, dwelling upon the cores of human relationships between each other as the source for success. You had the talkshow which featured brilliant aspiring successes of business including Aldo Sianturi, Nina Moran, and Ben Soebiakto telling us to “never quit”, making use of “our youth” heeding us to “never, ever ever give up”. Fajar Anugerah and Mahardhika Sadjad from The British Council engaged the audience with their crash course on project management. And to top it off, the beautiful Izabel Jahja inspired the participants about leading in a dynamically creative workforce and the challenges and obstacles faced during her fabulous career. These are just some of the many fantastic sessions that took place during RYLC2011.
But in between the speakers and sessions lies a greater bond. RYLC2011 had the fortunate privilege of gathering one of the most diverse participants from all around Indonesia and ASEAN, featuring students from Thailand, Cambodia and a wide range of Indonesian university students. Every participant were determined students; scholars of the world with a strong sense of passion, leadership and courage to take action in their ideas. Their difference became their strength, and soon they weren’t participants anymore: they were good mates.
It is always a beautiful sight to see the mass of young, empowering individuals sharing their passion and aspirations together. RYLC2011 was a step forward for the many talented and keen individuals that took part because of this. By the end of the conference, participants and committees alike would come together and share pictures, talk to each other about future plans and dreams, and help one another about their upcoming difficulties. Committees with their satisfied smiles would cheer on as the RYLC2011 conference ended with new experiences, new friends, and above all, new moments to share and remember.
Providing participants with unforgettable moments has always been the main target for me. As project leader of RYLC2011, I wanted to make sure that the results of this conference would transcend beyond the scheduled rundown. We helped a bit with the founding of the RYLC Community but it’s the small conversations and light “Hello’s” that soon become the line of thread that connects us as people and future leaders of tommorow. And I hope that the bonds we’ve made, the experience we’ve shared, and the insights we’ve learnt will continue to stay with us forever.
It’s a true fact: the world is changing. But in a highly competitive world where second languages are mandatory and skills set become more dynamic, it’s all about action. And after having experienced RYLC2011 and met the incredible speakers and young generation participants, I can say with pride and confidence, that action has taken place.
